A long-time reader, who doesn't want to be given credit, recently went spot-sighting in the area of Tokyo where I made up Seishiro's house to be.
Given that I invented it in 2005 (before Google Streetview!) based on a Falk city map of Tokyo (1:15000), the findings are almost scary...

The tiny ultra-sonic fogger I recently placed in my indoor fountain effectively cleans the minuscule lime cover that stuck on the wide transparent blue glass bowl I've been using for indoor fountains over the past 20 years, resulting in two things:
First, the riffled transparent blue glass bowl is beautifully shiny again, adding a lot more flair to the LED lighting attached to the fogger.
Second, despite using distilled water for it, I now have to change the 2.5 liters in the bowl every other day until the lime is gone, or there is this ugly dust flake-like flotsam twirling in the bowl.
I should get a larger model to use on the bathtub...

I felt rather down on New Years Eve. A lot of things I care not to repeat made 2009 a rather bleak prospect.
Today it snowed, covering all the dirt from the fireworks and I spotted first a kingfisher and later a grey heron along the flood pools.
It was the first time I saw a kingfisher in the wild and he traced my path for over fifteen minutes.
Grey herons aren't that uncommon around here, but to see one less than twenty meters away was special.
Well done, 2009. I'm impressed.
When least I expected it, you brought out the beauty!

...when being worn out is spent watching all 15 episodes of Leiji Matsumoto's "Cosmowarrior Zero" (13 serial eps and 2 tv specials) in one go from 10:00 to somewhat 18:30, with brief interruptions to refill coffee and creme softcake. ♥
And to top it off, I don't even have to develop a bad conscience about it, because my data analysis laptop was running an extensive system check after an unexpected crash this morning and nicely recovered around 17:55! ♥ ♥
On an afterthought: I absolutely need Zero and Captain Harlock icons now!

current chapter word count: unchanged (if one discounts two large bits marked as "likely to go" later)
but there are 3 (!) important scene fragments on a scribble page
unfortunately I totally lack the energy to type & expand on that today
because extended dental surgery part 2 went well, but furthered my creativity (and power) as much as the last one.
as a bonus: fresh from a still legally incapacitated mind...

It feels great...
...to have your data available again.
...to have more desk space than before (because 2 500 GB drives fit l&r under the TFT, whereas the 1TB drive box did not)
...to have two silver 4 USB 2.0 ports on top of each (I'm a physicist - we're suckers for symmetries!)
...to have now enough ports for all of my periphery at once!
...to have the whole system back behind high-grade surge protection (*)
...to have all the black & silver wires neatly bound back again
...to finally be able to focus on writing!
(*) yes, I'm paranoid. You should see my UPS!

My TB drive is dead.
I hoped for a while, but the number of bad sectors is growing with each check.
I won't spent 24 hours something running a chkdsk /r on a TeraByte. *sigh*
Pro: I was really lucky to salvage all my data from it! I lost 8 kB out of 800+ GBs. That's a pretty good quota.
Con: I'm bancrupt this month; I have to spend next weekend to remodel my system to deal with two external USB harddrives instead of one external Firewire harddrive; I need more deskspace, more power outlets, more... time for everything. And I generally feel as if this weekend kind of didn't take place. I need a weekend from this weekend. Now.

If your 1TB drive suddenly pops cluster errors at you, you kind of know that the weekend is busted (as is your wallet, but that's another matter) - especially if you're paranoid regarding data loss!
So instead of working on FM yesterday afternoon and today, I raced around finding two 500 GB drives, a new USB 2.0 hub (because the TB is a firewire drive, which is nice but unfortunately expensive and two additional USB drives need more hubs than I had -- printer, scanner, graphics tablet, portable...) and spent the rest of the time copying material, rescuing data from the TB bad sectors, narrowing down losses (turns out: truly gone are currently 8 kB, but a drive already showing cluster errors cannot be relied on for data storage! Not when you want to sleep sound!) and overall setting up the system with two new drives - I'm going to keep the TB as kind of every day mirror, so that everything on it is also on at least one other drive - and realizing that I need another flash-protected power line. Will get that next week and use next weekend to do the rewiring...
Overall result: two shiny new drives; almost all the data rescued; and geek weight loss of 5 kg or more (at least).
But... I have scribbles for two of the three remaining issues in FM! So yay, for overclocked minds!

Dear phone company, I'd very much appreciate it, if my phone doesn't ring to tell me that
- it is busy (I prefer my phone to be busy when I actually tried to call somebody who's already speaking with somebody else!)
- I'm in somebody's waiting loop (I bother with waiting loops only if I called the service and can afford the wait!)
- my inbox has no messages (I only want to know about existing messages if I called the damn box!)
- a telemarketer, speaking apparently an ancient form of Aramaic, wants to sell me something. (No, you can't opt out of the ensuing verbal decapitation.)

Firstly, I've got an Aunt in the US (about 60-years-old, widowed, and fond of cats and kitchens).
Secondly, said Aunt got herself a shiny new kitchen (and adopted a cute li'l kitten recently), both of which was talked about extensively on the phone and she promised to send pictures.

...can you imagine that there's a certain reason behind most construction companies trying to finish their building projects in Germany by the end of September?
...can you further imagine that said reason might be related to the fact that it is rather uncommon here to replace apartment windows at the end of December?
...would it surprise you to learn that said reason is commonly called F.R.O.S.T. (and that I don't mean L.K. Hamilton's Sidhe warrior by it)?
Therefore, allow me to put it all into simpler words:
